I was born
in Burton-upon-Trent, England, in 1943, and went to St Edward’s School, Oxford,
from the age of 12 to 16. I later studied at the University of Colorado in Boulder,
where I had my first literary experience, in 1968, writing play revues for the
Colorado Daily. At the age of 25 I went to live in Rome and stayed there for
five years, painting pictures of the Eternal City and working as an interpreter
and translator. On my return to London at the age of 30, I spent several years
working as an interpreter and translator, painting on an amateur basis in the
meantime, and in 1978 received my first commission to paint a mural. This
professional painting activity took me back to Italy, and also to other
countries, Brazil included. In 1987 I was commissioned by Ward Lock of London
to write my first book, PAINTED ILLUSIONS, A Creative Guide to Painting Murals
and Trompe-l’oeil Effects. This book was later published by Salem House in the
USA. In 1993 I married the Brazilian artist Ana Maria Lampreia Carvalho. We
spend most of our time in England or Brazil, and sometimes travel to other
countries to paint mural commissions. ‘Beyond the Wall’, which is Volume I of
the Trilogy Throw a Little Light, was published by Sterling House Inc.
in 2006. ‘The Microcosm’ (Volume II) was published in November 2008.
